I've never seen the ocean, so I'm going to Hawaii as a birthday present. I'm from Colorado...so it will definately be different. Is a bikini inappropriate and S****y looking, or is that the norm? I saw some wrap things on Overstock, but I don't want to look old. It's B-day number 21...so please give me some ideas. Thanks!

  1. its not S****y its quite normal!.

i live in hawaii and just try your best to not follow any guide books. if you look like a tourist you will be treated like one.

some locals can be very mean to tourists. also the weather is always the same. so dont bring anything warm maybe one jacket for night time

just dress how you normally would in slightly warmer weather

  2. Bikini is the norm. I have been to Hawaii at least 8 times. Everything is casual  and loose. As long as you have the body go for the bikini. Have fun.

  3. i live in hawaii so i would suggest you bring sun screen lots and lots of it. and if your going in the summer its going to be very hot so wear short-sleeve [tank tops] and bring shorts. probably bring one jacket just in case it rains. bikinis are not S****y looking its very normal. a cute thing to wear to the beach could be a dress. if you need some ideas go to www.pacsun.com  they have very cute "beachy" things to wear. try searching up some places to go so you wont look like a tourist when you come :). believe me people will treat you differently.

    some sites i suggest are...

    1. makapu'u light house walk

    2. polynesian cultural center

    3. sandy beach

    4. hawaiian waters adventure park

    5. waikiki

    6. diamond head

    7. bellows

theres alot of fun stuff to do here. happy birthday!!

hope you have a great time here

  4. I agree, if you have the body for it the bikini is the only way to go.  The java wrap, or whatever name used, is a great addition for a completed look to the swimsuit.....tied around the hip as a wrap around skirt....or tied around behind the neck for a different look...or over the shoulders as a shawl......plus lots of alternatives.  My all time favorite piece of that I carry with me, literally, every where I go.

Take easy comfortable clothing.  Casual and relaxed.....flowing and breezy.  Remember, this is the islands.  It is a different feel and atmosphere........tempo and time table a bit different from land locked mainland.

Have a BLAST on your birthday!!!!

  5. bakini. not S****y. casual. and sun screen. about two barrels full should do ;)

  6. Bikinis are great when on the beach. It is probably a good idea to wear some                                           sort of casual cover up when not.
