Question:

Hawaiian Luau Ideas??

We are having our 3rd annual Hawaiian Luau party at a bar I manage and bartend at! This is the first one that I have had to do on my own since managing so I am a little nervous!

I am looking for some fun game ideas for adults that will be during short breaks from entertainment.

We are also having a pig roast and I would like some easy Hawaiian side dishes that would go good with Pork.

Someone mentioned "POI" as a spread, but I heard it was horrible..does anyone know what this is?

  4. Hawaiian food usually consists of mixed plate, which typically includes scoops of rice, scoop of macaroni salad, squid lau lau, chicken long rice, beef ribs, fish.  For sides, you can serve salad, veggies...For dessert, haupia cake or haupia (coconut cake or coconut jello, made with coconut milk).  Another side dish that is often serve is Okinawan sweet potato otherwise known as purple sweet potato.  It is delicious.  Just boil the potato, mash it like you would regular potato, add butter, and coconut milk.   If you could get fresh papaya, a great dessert is slice that papaya in half.  Take the seeds out.  Put a teaspoon of brown sugar, a teaspoon of chopped mac nuts, a teaspoon of shredded coconut, bake in oven at 375 for about 7 to 10 minutes.  It is so Ono(Delicious)!  Poi is good to serve with salmon lau lau.  You only need a bit of poi with the salmon.
