Hawk-Eye failure makes Juan Martin Del Potro angry – Tennis News
Juan Martin Del Potro was enraged due to the failure of Hawk-Eye review system during his quarterfinal match against none other than Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, USA on Friday.
Federer thrashed the Argentinean, Del Potro, in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 but it was the first game of the contest which grabbed the majority of attention.
On the sixth deuce, during the opening game, Federer delivered a first serve which was called in by the line man. Del Potro thought that the ball was out and when he challenged the call, it was learnt that Hawk-Eye did not have
any data.
The Argentinean got frustrated and kept arguing with the chair umpire for a couple of minutes but to no avail. The 23-year-old was fuming and made action with his fingers that the ball fell inches out. The umpire replied it was
his error, as he could not judge the call but in this case he had to go with line man’s call.
Federer got advantage and went on to win the next point too, holding his opening serve after saving two break points.
Del Porto said, talking to the reporters during the post match press conference, "There was a problem with that call. It was clear out and the machine doesn't work. The chair umpire told me he made a mistake. After that, I was
not concentrating in the match and Roger was playing better, taking all his opportunities. I don't feel comfortable playing the match, but that was my problem. Roger made his job, and he's a good winner."

Spokesperson of the ATP World Tour gave an official statement that if the Hawk-Eye does not work then the call by on-court official stands, according to the rules. It said, “We understand there was a loss of an internet connection and the data could not be
provided."
Federer, who himself is not a big fan of Hawk-Eye technology, had also judged the ball to have landed outside the serve box. He was even getting ready for the second serve before the call came.
The Swiss said on this, “I thought the ball was out, and that was it, basically. And then you just go with the call of the umpire and you sort of move on with it.”
Federer will take on his arch rival, world number two Rafael Nadal, in the semi-final.
