Hawk returns back to Wimbledon to resume its duties – Tennis News
Famous Wimbledon Hawk, Rufus, was stolen on the eve of Thursday. The officials were extremely concerned by the loss of the servant that roamed in the sky to contain the courts covered area from other birds. No one is sure when
the hawk was stolen from the bounds of Wimbledon; however, it was during the night time between Thursday and Friday. Someone came in; picked the hawk from the parking in Dunstall Road through an open window of the official car.
However, without much drama and hype, the famous Rufus has flown back to its original owners and will soon resume its duty of patrolling the skies. Owner Imogen Davis is the owner of the hawk and he found the hawk standing still
in Wimbledon Common.
She mentioned, “He was found at Wimbledon Common and somebody, whoever found him, took him to the RSPCA in Putney. They did it on Saturday but we didn't find out until last night. I don't know if they knew (he was the Wimbledon
hawk). We'd been searching in Wimbledon yesterday. When we heard he was at the RSPCA, we darted down there and I was thinking, 'Please be Rufus', and it was. He had been in his box on Wimbledon Common. Because he was in his box he hasn't been too stressed.”
The hawk was not kept in a good state during the missing time period. Whoever had it was unaware of the diet and the health of Rufus was worsened. However, it is back in the care of his original owners who are doing all they can
to revive the health. The damage is not stupendous and the four-year-old bird will be seen back in action to its official duty in the midweek.
All is well with hawk coming back at Wimbledon. Players are ready to kick off the fourth round matches on Monday. Both defending champions, Novak Djokovic of Serbia and Petra Kvitova of Czech Republic, will be seen in action against
Victor Troicki of Serbia and Francesca Schiavone of Italy respectively. Both matches will be world class events and a must watch for tennis fanatics.
