Hawkes Bay thump North Harbour by massive score of 39-10: ITM Cup News
Hawkes Bay defeated North Harbour by a massive difference of 39-10 in the fifth round of the ITM Cup 2011. The visiting Hawkes Bay left their rivals North Harbour l*****g their wounds before their home crowd in North Harbour Stadium on July 28. Hawkes Bay
scored five tries to clinch an important victory in the event. The North Harbour players failed to keep up with the pace of the game and were left chasing the Hawkes Bay players in the match.
Tua Saseve started off the scoring for his side and nailed the first try of the match for Hawkes Bay. After that the rusty defence of the North Harbour proved ineffective, Hawkes Bay players kept on scoring time and again in the match.
Andrew Horrell was impressive with his boot as he kicked four out of five conversion kicks and two penalty shoots into North Harbour’s goal. He was able to add 14 individual points to his team’s total.
On the other hand the, North Harbour could score only 10 points in the match and had given away the match to their rivals with bonus point. Mat Luamanu scored the only try for his side whereas Willie Walker and Ben Botica worked away on a penalty and conversion
kick respectively.
The Hawkes have now clinched the third consecutive victory in the tournament as they had defeated Otago and Southland in previous outgoings of the ITM Cup. Overall, it was a brilliant display of team work from the Bay players as they were dominated by Harbour
with respect to ball possession. Harbour had gained good territory and were running the field quite nicely but their effort to score was tackled exceptionally well by the Hawkes.
The home side North Harbour missed too many chances to score in the match and their downfall started with the early rampant effort of Luke McAlister. However, the Hawkes had not missed too many opportunities and increased their lead to 17-3 at the end of
first-half. The second-half of the match proved even better for the visitors and they extended their lead to the decisive score of 39-10.
