Hawkeyethenoo might miss the opportunity to defend his title in the Betfred Victoria Cup
Hawkeyethenoo might not run in the Betfred Victoria Cup at Ascot on Saturday, 12th May, 2012, if the weather conditions are not suitable for him to run.
The surface of the track is soft and trainer, Jim Goldie, admitted that weather is one of the factors that might force him to scratch the horse from the race.
The ground at Ascot is not challenging, but it is predicted that an inch of rain will take place over the week, which can make the track more difficult.
Goldie is keen to see the performance of the six-year-old gelding, as he has not raced since October last year, and he will come back with an unmatched fervour and motivation, but he has decided only to risk running the bay gelding if the ground is
suitable.
Goldie stated to the press that:
"The plan is to run him at this stage, but a lot depends on the ground. He's in good form and the plan has been to start him off in this race for a while, but if it ends up very soft we might give it a miss.”
The son of Hawk Wing, out of mare, Stardance, previously triumphed in the Totesport Victoria Cup at Ascot in May, 2011, where he emerged successful as he defeated, Manassas, by 2 ½ lengths.
This was the only victory of the season as his performances fell drastically after that.
If he competes in this race, he has a chance of redeeming himself in a grand manner. If he runs, he will be paired with renowned jockey, Graham Lee.
The trainer appreciated the credentials of Graham Lee:
"If he runs Graham will ride him. Everyone knows he's a class jockey. He's won a Grand National, Scottish Nationals, been top jockey at Cheltenham and ridden over 1,000 winners. Not many have a CV like that."
Jim Goldie does not have any confirmed future plans for the Johnnie Delta Racing owned runner, as he stated that, Hawkeyethenoo, has been preparing for this event at Ascot and it hasn’t been decided yet where the horse will run if he misses this race.
