I just bought a rabbit and everywhere I read that Hay is an essential part of their diet. SO far he has been eating greens from salads not lettuce, different vegetables, pellets a little bit he doesn't seem to like them. fruits like banana. I do take him once a day outside and he eats grass too. So I have no idea if I still have to buy him Hay or not.?

  1. Only feed him:

A little more than a half a cup or a cup of seed free, normal pellets

A hay rack full of Timothy Hay

    No salad greens either

Don't feed anything similar too lettuce, even if it isn't

Everything you are feeding him are just treats. They are fatty, and unhealthy, and even if he likes them, take him off of them...

Compared to all of those treats, of course he won't like pellets!!!

But you have to feed him pellets!!! No matter how bad he hates them, and you don't like him eating them! You will save his life!

No grass from outside. There is pestisides.

Pellets, and timothy hay, and maybe some greens should be his main diet. Everything else, is a treat.

And trust me, I really don't want to seem like I am mean... Really, I am sorry if you are offended in any way, I just want the best of health to your new little friend!!!

I am so happy for the both of you!

    Good Luck!!!

  2. i feed my rabbits regular hay, but timothy hay works too

  3. Hay, like alphalpha hay, is a good idea. I fed mine hay when I got some, but for a while they will be fine. Go to a farmer's action to buy some, it should only cost about 5 dollars for a square bale.

  4. You should not feed the rabbit this much treats. One baby carrot a day and maybe one slice of banana is enough. Feed pellets as a staple food. Also have the hay always available as it is very important for their digestion. Also do not feed anything other than pellets until 4 months of age.

  5. Your rabbit is eating too many veggies/treats. You need to provide plain pellets, not anything with treats, for they'll pick out those little 'treats' give him justp lain pellet, and do Timothy hay, that's what I used for my rabbit.
