Hayden Thomas clinches Men’s 1500m freestyle gold – 2012 Southwest Classic Invitational, Arizona
Hayden Thomas of UASU-AZ captured gold medal of the Men’s 1500m freestyle at the 2012 Southwest Classic Invitational in Tucson, Arizona on Saturday, May 5.
The 19-year-old Thomas demonstrated his gruelling efforts in the distant freestyle event as he dictated terms to his challengers throughout the 30-lap event and reached the finishing end for gold medal.
His incredible pace devastated hopes of his challengers, who were eyeing the title of 1500m event as he emerged on the finishing end for gold medal by submitting a time of 16 minutes and 53.08 seconds.
With his gold winning effort, he remained almost half a minute ahead of his subsequent swimmer, Tyler S Mattingly of Ford Aquatics-AZ, who sprinted his way towards the finishing blockade for silver medal by clocking a time of 17 minutes and 21.72 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by Mattingly’s teammate, Lawrence B Muldoon, who stayed considerably slower from him and settled on the wall for third position.
The 18-year-old Muldoon stayed almost one and a half minute slower from his foregoing finisher and transpired on the finishing wall for bronze medal by producing a time of 18 minutes and 40.78 seconds.
Similarly, Muldoon was followed by Nicholas P Mitchell of El Dorado-AZ, who remained approximately four seconds apart and surfaced on the finishing wall for fourth position by clocking a time of 18 minutes and 44.39 seconds.
The fourth fastest finisher was chased by Daniel J Brauer of FAST-AZ, who suffered a loss of almost thirteen seconds and clocked a time of 18 minutes and 57.56 seconds to secured fifth position of the event.
Brauer was trailed by Muldoon’s teammate, Scott D Shake, who was nearly fourteen seconds apart and concluded his swim in sixth best place by submitting a time of 19 minutes and 11.82 seconds.
Last spot of the race was secured by Chase Damis of Gmsc-AZ, who remained considerably slower from his preceding swimmer and hit the wall with an effort of 19 minutes and 24.51 seconds.
In addition, the position holders were called upon the victory stand for awards and accolades after the session.
