Haye says Wladimir vs. Mormeck will be one of the most unappealing heavyweight fights – Boxing news
Former World Boxing Association heavyweight champion of the world, David Haye, reckons Wladimir Klitschko’s upcoming bout with the Frenchman Jean-Marc Mormeck is going to be one of the most unappealing heavyweight fights for many years.
The 31-year-old brash Londoner, Haye, who on Thursday in a news conference in London officially announced his retirement from the sport, told the media there are no more exciting fights left out there these days.
“In the division you are not going to be getting any more exciting nights now, unfortunately,” Haye said.
Haye stopped Mormeck in the seventh round when they met back in November 2007 for the WBA, WBC and The Ring Cruiserweight titles and the Brit believes Mormeck will not be able to cope up with the class of Wladimir, who currently holds the WBA (Super), IBF,
WBO Super, IBO and Ring Magazine Championship belts.
Haye also thinks Wladimir’s bout with Mormeck will take the heavyweight division into darkness, as Haye believes Wladimir should have taken on the best in the sport.
Haye remarked, “Wladimir is now challenging Jean-Marc Mormeck - a guy who I knocked out at cruiserweight. It will be one of the most unappealing heavyweight contests for many years. It paints a really bleak picture for the future of the division. I can't
think why a person who has as many titles as Wladimir is challenging someone who has done nothing.”
In the end, Haye commented on his fight with Wladimir which happened on July 2, 2011 at the Hamburg’s Football Stadium in Germany. It was a unification bout for the heavyweight titles and one of the biggest bouts in the British history. Haye declared a lot
ahead of his fight but lost the fight via unanimous decision on the fight night. Therefore, he admitted it was a shameful defeat but on the same note, he said this is the way it goes.
“It makes me think the division is back to what it was before I got here - it's a shame but that's the way it goes,” Haye added.
