Hayemaker Promotions sort of responds to Frank Warren's offer
David Haye’s promotional company, Hayemaker Promotions, has responded to an offer made by big-time British promoter Frank Warren.
Yesterday Warren issued an offer to Hayemaker Promotions prospect George Groves, saying he had 48 hours to agree to terms for a fight with prospect James DeGale on one of his cards.
Within the timeline Hayemaker CEO, Adam Booth, responded with another offer. Sky Sports confirmed that a counter-offer was sent to DeGale that offered the fighter 'substantially more' money to accept Booth’s terms for a fight. The catch would be
that DeGale would have to fight at a Hayemaker-sponsored event, as opposed to one endorsed by Frank Warren.
Both have agreed that the fight should be in December.
It is expected that Warren will not be happy with terms, but it is unclear what course of action him and fighter DeGale will take following the news.
"I have made a counter offer to Frank Warren this morning for James DeGale to fight George Groves at a Hayemaker show - and it is substantially more than his offer to us," Booth said to
Sky Sports. "I have put my money firmly where my mouth is and seeing that Frank and James so desperately want the fight, I look forward to their acceptance."
James DeGale (8-0, 6 KOs) won gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the middleweight division. He is currently the WBA international super middleweight champion.
George Groves (10-0, 8 KOs) is a former amateur champion and the current Commonwealth super middleweight champion. His team, Hayemaker Promotions, previously challenged DeGale to a bout in April, but the offer was denied.
Irish-based Cuban prospect Luis Garcia has also weighed in on Warren’s offer, saying he would accept a fight with DeGale on the spot. Garcia (9-0, 7 KOs) says that DeGale is avoiding him and he doubts that 'Chunky' will get back to him with the terms for
a fight.
There are those who feel these three should not fight each other at this point, and should instead build up their prospective records. In that case, promoters could look forward to potential super-fights.
