Hayley Baker earns Girls 200m backstroke gold – 2013 GHSF Australian Championships
Hayley Baker of Melbvicentre earned gold medal of the Girls 200m backstroke in 17-18 years old category on fifth day of the 2013 GHSF Australian Age Swimming Championships in SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre, Adelaide on Friday, April 12.
The 17-year-old Baker showed no mercy to her challengers in the 200m discipline and sprinted her way towards the finishing wall for gold medal. She enjoyed a comfortable lead over her opponents and rushed her way towards the finishing wall for the title.
With her commendable pace, baker remained one and a half body length ahead of her closest competitor and cruised her way towards the wall for the title with an effort of 2 minutes and 13.03 seconds.
The champion was chased by Tianni Gilmour of Pelican Waters, who was 1.53 seconds apart and emerged on the finishing end for silver medal by producing a time of 2 minutes and 14.56 seconds.
The second best finisher was followed by Samantha Wilkins of Waterlions, who was 0.29 seconds behind and transpired on the finishing end for bronze medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 14.85 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Kate Hofmeyer of Marion, who was 0.90 seconds slower and touched the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 15.75 seconds.
Fifth position of the race was obtained by Alici Caldwell of Carlile, who stayed nearly two seconds behind and surfaced on the finishing end with an effort of 2 minutes and 17.59 seconds.
Caldwell was chased by Nicola Stirton of Carlile, who was significantly slower from overpowering her foregoing finisher and posted a time of 2 minutes and 19.60 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh spot of the race was obtained by Rebecca Dungan of Trinity Grammar, who was just 0.41 seconds apart and hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 20.01 seconds.
Last position of the race was secured by Zoe Williams of Marion, who was 0.11 seconds apart and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 20.12 seconds.
Furthermore, Baker was happy and received accolades at the prize ceremony of the race.
