Hayley Baker secures Girls 200m backstroke title: Day six – Australian Age Championships, Brisbane
Hayley Baker of Melbourne Vicentre secured the title of Girls 200m backstroke in the age group of 16 Year Olds on day six of the 2012 Australian Age Championships at the Sleeman Sports Complex, Brisbane on Saturday, April 14.
Baker demonstrated her gruelling efforts in the distant backstroke event and proved her eligibility for gold medal of the event. She went full rampant in the four-lap event and concluded her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 14.68 seconds for the crown of
the event.
Her scintillating effort was trailed by Tianni Gilmour of Pelican Waters, who stayed nearly two strokes behind and tapped the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 16.20 seconds for silver medal.
Gilmour was chased by Leah Neale of CYMS St Edmund’s, who earned bronze medal of the discipline by hitting the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 16.79 seconds.
The fourth spot of the discipline was obtained by Kate Hofmeyer of Burnside, who stayed nearly one body length behind and emerged on the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 17.35 seconds.
Afterwards, the crowd experienced ruthless aggression of Jordan Harrison in the Boys 16 Year Olds 200m backstroke. Harrison showed no mercy to his opponents and reached the finishing end for first position by touching the wall in a time of 2 minutes and
03.47 seconds.
His marvellous pace placed him in a lead of almost 1.50 seconds over Mitchell Pratt of Tigersharks, who settled on the wall for silver medal by producing a time of 2 minutes and 04.99 seconds.
Pratt was chased by Regan Leong of Townsville Marlin, who remained significantly slower from his former finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 06.47 seconds for bronze medal.
Leong was trailed by Lachlan McLeish of Surrey Park, who stayed nearly one second behind and hit the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 07.44 seconds for fourth position.
In addition, the arena enjoyed stupendous efforts of all participants in their respective disciplines while the position holders received medals after the session.
