Hayley Edmond grabs Women’s 200m butterfly title – New Zealand SC Championships
Hayley Edmond of North Shore Swimming-AK grabbed gold medal of the Women’s 200m butterfly in 16 and over age group on first day of the State 2012 New Zealand Short Course Championships at Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre in Wellington on Sunday, September 30.
The 17-year-old Edmond enjoyed a comfortable lead over her opponents in the distant butterfly discipline and reached the finishing blockade for gold medal.
Her gruelling pace remained considerably ahead of her following swimmer as she occupied gold medal of the race with an effort of 2 minutes and 20.43 seconds.
The gold medallist remained almost five seconds ahead of Jessica Miller of Otumoetai Swimming Club-BP, who stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by reporting an effort of 2 minutes and 25.69 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Chelsea Easter of Wharenui Swim Club-CB, who stayed almost full body length apart and finished third in the race by producing a time of 2 minutes and 26.46 seconds.
Easter was trailed by Abigail Dorrington of Karori Pirates Swimming Club-WN, who was half body length behind and settled on the finishing end as fourth best finisher by producing a time of 2 minutes and 27.15 seconds.
Fifth position of the race was obtained by Shannon Payne of North Shore Swimming-AK, who was full body length apart and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 28.08 seconds.
Payne enjoyed an advantage of 0.67 seconds over Rachel Smart of Karori Pirates Swimming Club-WN, who completed her race in sixth best place by submitting an effort of 2 minutes and 28.75 seconds.
Subsequently, Smart was chased by Tayla Radovanovich of Tawa Swimming Club-WN, who stayed 0.67 seconds apart and finished seventh in the race by producing a time of 2 minutes and 29.42 seconds.
Eighth position of the race was obtained by Danielle Donaldson of North Shore Swimming-AK, who was one and a half body length behind and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 31.09 seconds.
In addition, Edmond was happy with her title claiming effort and said that she would try hard to continue the same in future.
