Haymarket looking for a competitive run in Farewell To Phil Novices´ Handicap Hurdle
Haymarket will be looking to steal the show in the Farewell To Phil Novices´ Handicap Hurdle at Sandown in England on Friday, December 7, 2012. He is young and lacks experience, but that does not mean that he cannot win races at this level.
He is loaded with immense talent and will definitely cause a lot of problems for his rivals in the class-4 competition, scheduled to kick off at 15:30 GMT. He will have to overcome 15 other runners, who will not make things easy for him today.
However, the contestants will have to cope with tricky conditions because of the weather conditions. There has been a lot of rain overnight, which has made the ground soft. This means that extra effort will be required in the 2 mile, 110 yard race.
Due to this, some of the participants might opt to withdraw their names from the entry list, as they will not risk an injury under such conditions.
On the other hand, there will be a few stallions looking forward to make the most of a wet track, as they like running under such circumstances. The winner of the race will walk away with a cash prize of £3,249 in the end.
Tanerko Emery has been given the best odds for winning the race at Sandown, as he has mostly done well while hurdling. He likes running in this format, which will encourage the punters to place a lot of bets on him.
The six-year-old gelding debuted in 2009 with a decent performance, but was unable to take part in any event for more than two years.
Once he made a comeback to the sport this year, he had to wait for a couple of races before finding his rhythm. He is in very good shape at the moment and will not mind the track conditions at Sandown today.
On the other hand, Haymarket has never dropped out of the top-three while running in races over hurdles. He might struggle with the conditions, but his trainer, John Ferguson, will be hoping that things work out well in his favour at the end of the day.
The three-year-old gelding will be partnered by jockey, Denis O'Regan, who has accompanied him in the past as well.
