Hazelrigg favourite for Isle of Skye 8yo Blended Whisky Handicap
Hazelrigg is tipped to prevail in the Isle of Skye 8yo Blended Whisky Handicap at Ayr in England on Monday, July 9, 2012. The class-3 winner will get a cash prize of £6,663 in the end.
The going will be soft in the 5 furlong event, which will start at 14:30 GMT, and a total of nine runners have been attracted towards the race. There are some experienced runners lined up for action at Ayr, but the best chances of victory appear to be with
Hazelrigg, who will like the ground today.
The seasoned runner has been priced 4 to 1 by the bookies and will definitely attract some bets from the punters. His recent performances have been decent, but victories have dried up for him. His team will be expecting him to break the shackles today, as
the conditions are ideal for him.
Overall, the seven-year-old gelding has been a touch inconsistent throughout his career, which is a negative sign. He certainly has the skills to match the best in the business, but needs luck in order to do that regularly.
The Tim Easterby’s trainee debuted back in 2008 and started off his career with a bang. He was victorious in his very first race, despite not being rated as the favourite by the bookmakers.
However, the Irish runner was unable to carry onto the winning momentum in the future events, as he struggled through the remaining half of the season. He had to wait for quite some time in order to bring up his second victory, but started delivering some
consistent results afterwards.
The 2010 season proved to be a good one for Namid’s son, but he has been unable to win any more races since that year. He seems to be in good form right now and has a solid chance of turning things around.
In his most recent race, Hazelrigg was rated as the favourite to win, but disappointed the bookies, by failing to do so. Despite that, his performance was not bad at all and he ended runner up.
David Allan will be the one accompanying Hazelrigg in the race at Ayr. He has got plenty of experience and will be looking forward to a strong show.
