Hd problem?

every now and then i get 2 lines of static on the top of my hd channel. its black and white and only looks like 3 pix rows across the top any one know what this is?

  1. Those might be data signals added to the tv picture.  You would see them only on non-hd segments of tv broadcasts, and if you have your set adjusted for full pixel display.  This is where closed-captioned information was encoded on analog signal, and sets were supposed to "overscan" so that this part of the picture was not visible.


  2. I thought it was line 26 closed captioning RT....

    And if you own one of the 120 Hz refresh units from Sony, all you have to do to get rid of it is go into your menu, find the Pixel Plus mode in your Setup or Video or Features Icon and turn it off.....or it may be in your Wide Icon, but I don't think it's there.....

  3. I would have to see it to make sure, but that sounds like a signal called AMOL.  It's used by Nielsen for their automated recording of ratings information.  It's supposed to be on lines 20 and 22, which are usually off screen, however I have seen some cases where it is visible.

    EDIT for Tech-Man: Actually, the old EIA 608 Closed Captioning is on Line 21.  New new 708 captions are packets in the data stream.
