what does it mean on a TV when it is HDCP enabled and what if it is not enabled what are the consquences and if it is not enable can you make it enabled?

  1. High Def Copy Protection - this is built into the HDMI specification.

    Without HDCP - your new BluRay player, your HD cable box or your HD sat box may down-convert the video to 480 because it does not trust that the TV is a display only device.

    This is to thwart all the pirates that would take a HD movie, and use it to make DVD, VHS or VideoCD's and flood the Asia and European markets.

    So you DONT want HDCP - buy you have to have it to avoid problems with copy protection in future devices & movies.
