i just got for christmas a home theatre system for my hdtv. so i am dying to connect it but i was wondering about the hdmi cord i have noticed that some are more expensive then others. does the difference in price mean that the quality will be alot better. or is it just the brand that i will be buying..i have a friend and he has a hdtv and a theatre system hooked up and i noticed his picture is nice but has an odd look to it especially during bright scenes. the bright scenes have what looks like little dark blotches.everywhere. like static like if the scene is to bright..so before i go out and buy one any advice will help..thanks

  1. Basically, while there are differences, for most uses a budget cable (~$10) will work as well as an expensive one ($100+). See the article at the link for the data and discussion.

  2. part of the price is the quality of the conductors and connectors and what the conductors are made from. Solid gold conductors and connectors cost more than plated obviously.  the other part is the brand.  as for your friend's hdtv home theater system, have to have more info, a lot depends on how the television is configured.
