HD up scaling will work on any tv with a dvd recorder and will play well by your scart lead, you dont have to have a hd tv to receive a better picture, but remember up scaling will only work when you put in a dvd or record onto dvd, normal viewing will look the same, well worth the money, the better picture you receive is a vast improvement, even with an hd tv you do not require a hdmi lead its just the same with the scart lead as its not hd, a cheap recorder or just a player with give the same results, i tested them all, no better picture on the £600 one, so i purchased mine for £150 its great, almost HD quality.

  1. What exactly is the question?

HDMI is not scaling anything, however, upconverting DVD players will not upscale unless you use HDMI (copy protection issues).

All HDTVs will upsacle any input they receive to their native resolution, regardless whether you use HDMI or scart.
