Hdtv dtv converter boxes

can you just buy the box and hook it up to your tv. My mom went to best buy and they had them there for like $60. i got the $40 coupon card that they are giving away. the guy at best buy said there's are better thanm wal-marts because they come with a remote. what the h**l do you need a remote for. If any idea please let me know if there is a differnce. thanks.

  1. The digital converter box is used to receive the new digital channels from the local stations when you only have a standard TV and not a HDTV.  You disconnect the antenna from your TV.  Connect the antenna to the converter box, then connect the output of the converter box to your TV.  When using a digital converter box, the box selects the channel.  You just set your TV to channel 3 or 4, whichever channel the converter box is set to use.  You'd then use the converter box remote to change the channels.

If you have an HD TV with no digital tuner, this means you have to spend about $180 to get a digital HD terrestrial receiver.  Samsung sells them at Best Buy and Circuit City.  It connects to your component input on your TV.  This is not the same thing as composite.  Composite has red, yellow, and white.  Componet uses the same audio as the composite (red and yellow), but it uses a different video connection.  It uses the red, green, and blue connections for video.
