He Zi and Wu Minxia earn Synchronised Women’s 3m Springboard gold - 18th FINA Diving World Cup
The strong Chinese pair of He Zi and Wu Minxia have stifled hopes of their rivals by earning gold medal of the Women’s Synchronised 3m Springboard on sixth day of the 18th Federation Internationale de Natation Amateur (FINA) Visa Diving World Cup at the Aquatics Centre, Olympic Park in London, on Saturday, February 25.
The Chinese divers have not lost a single gold medal in the championship so far and with the ruthless reign of their duo, they captured another gold medal of the tournament. The Chinese duo remained dominant over their competitors throughout the event and earned their way to the medal rostrum for gold medal.
Zi won a gold medal in the Synchronised 3m Springboard event while secured a silver medal in the 3m individual discipline at the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai. She also pocketed gold medal of the 1m Springboard discipline at the 2007 Melbourne World Championships.
In contrast, Minxia obtained a gold medal in the Synchronised 3m Springboard and settled third in the 3m Springboard at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. She was also the champion of Synchronised discipline at the 2004 Athens Olympics while ended second in the 3m individual event at the same Olympics.
Zi and Minxia gathered a wonderful total of 345.30 points to prove their mettle for the crown of the event. With their remarkable efforts, they remained almost 24 points ahead of Canadian divers, Jennifer Abel and Emilie Heymans, who elevated from the fourth qualification spot, and reached the podium for silver medal by accomplishing 321.90 points.
The third spot of the event was obtained by sixth best qualifying duo of Italy’s Tania Cagnotto and Francesca Dallape, who stunned the arena with their dazzling form in the event. Cagnotto and Dallape stayed just 4.50 points behind the second position holders and reached the victory stand for bronze medal with a score of 317.40 points.
In addition, the session ended after the conclusion of all scheduled events whereas the medal winners were awarded accolades for their scintillating performance in the 3m discipline at the prize distribution ceremony of the World Cup.
