He Zi secure Women’s 3m Springboard gold medal – Swimming news
Chinese veteran, He Zi secured gold medal of the Women’s 3m Springboard on day two of the FINA/MIDEA Diving World Series 2013 in Guadalajara, Mexico on Saturday, May 18.
The Chinese diver faced strong competition from her opponents in the first round of the event and with her astonishing pace, she managed to top the score chart. With her commendable start, she managed to gain lead over her challengers and secured the title.
With her notable efforts, Zi dominated the first round as she secured a total of 76.50 points. Her gruelling effort remained 4.50 points ahead of her toughest challenger, Laura Sanchez of Mexico, who ended her first round with a score of 72.00 points.
The same continued in second round, where both divers remained neck-to-neck and added a score of 72.00 points respectively to their scorecards.
Similarly, Sanchez managed to dominate third round of the event as she accomplished a score of 76.50 points while Zi was able to earn 75.00 points.
The Chinese diver geared up her efforts in the fourth and fifth round where she extended her lead with a score of 80.60 and 72.00 points respectively. In contrast, Sanchez remained marginally slower from her toughest challenger as she secured 74.40 and 76.50
points respectively.
Zi remained slightly ahead of her closest competitor as she secured 376.10 points for gold medal. Her top finish remained nearly five points ahead of Sanchez, who stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal with a score of 371.40.
Third spot of the race was obtained by Jennifer Abel of Canada, who was 1.35 points behind and ended the event with a total of 370.05 points.
The third position holder was followed by Han Wang of China, who was nearly eight points behind and finished fourth in the game with 362.40 points.
Fifth position of the event was obtained by Tania Cagnotto of Italy, who was prominently away from upsetting her former finisher and secured 344.25 points.
In addition, Zi expressed happiness over her victory in the event while the position holders received medals and accolades at the prize ceremony of the event.
