My ex boyfriend is now 18 years old. He's still living with his parents, and he recently lost his job, his parents give him all the money that he DOES have & he goes and spends it on weed, and I'm pregnant. How will child support work?

I live in Florida if that makes ANY difference.

  1. I don't know why these people are telling you that you won't recieve child support.  They are very wrong.

The judge will assign an amount to you for monthly support even if he doesn't have a job.  You may not receive payments for a while, but he will start accruing back child support and they will eventually take away his drivers license and eventually could throw him in jail.

You still need to file.  Eventually he will pay, whether it be through work release while his butt is in jail... Or it be from his tax returns, whatever.

Feel free to email me if you want, I'd be happy to answer any questions you have.

  2. You wont get child support, he doesn't have any money. Bet you wish you used birth control!

  3. Unfortunately, you can get blood from a stone.  If he doesn't have a job, you are out of luck.

You are going to have to count on yourself and support yourself and your child.  Get a good full time job with health insurance, and don't depend on the "father" to help you out.  It will be difficult, but other women including myself do it all the time.

  4. intrestingg.

  5. you probably won't get any.

  6. He probably won't. He sounds like a deadbeat.

Get a lawyer. That's all I can say.

  7. He will get the amount he has to pay according to the court order once the baby is born then for every month he doesn't pay it adds up into back support.  After being behind so far they can put out a warrant for his arrest and he will go to jail for 30 days.

  8. job or no job he will have to pay CS what the court usually does when a parent is not working is they look at what they could be making - for instance min. wage or take the wages at his last work place and figure it out from there.  I know this as my husbands ex does not work but has nothing medical wrong with her to prevent her from working so they looked at her ability to earn and looked at what her last job was and what the going pay is for that job and figured out what her contribution to the child support should be from there.

  9. Him being unemployed & living with mommy & daddy will not get him out of anything. He will be ordered to pay SOMETHING.  Every state has a min. amount of monthly support.  It is usually min. wage with a 40 hour work week.  So whatever min. wage is for your area, that is what they will "pretend" he is making & that is the number they will use to figure up what he needs to be paying.  And if he remains unemployed after you get the court order, then obviously they can't take the support directly out of his pay checks.  But he will still be responsible to see that it gets paid every month.  If he does not find a way to pay it (like borrowing money from mom & dad to send in), then it will rack up as back support until it does get paid.  Once your back support balance gets high enough, they will put it on your credit report, take your driver's license, keep you from getting a passport, freeze & sieze your bank account, put liens on any property in your name (car, house, etc.), take your income tax refunds (if you file taxes & are entitled to a refund) & jail.  Now if he gets a job at ANY point before or after the court order, they should automatically start taking it out of his checks every time he gets paid.  So just because he is not working now, he will be working eventually.
