I was at a store (I won't say it since it is very well known) A man broke into my in-laws car. Hit me and my mother in law and took off. I chased him (because I was upset) I stopped when another car I thought was with him tryed to hit me. Then 2 other men went after him. The man then pulled a knife on them and came back with a knife after the about 5 people in the parking lot to get his car and left. He was charged with many things including: terroristic treats, simple assult, grand theft auto, and many other things for stealing credit cards. End up some where around 19 felony's and 3 misdemeanorsrs. He is in the state pen for 4-9 years since this isn't his first offence. He is now set to pay me for my lost days at work and my med bills. I just got a thing in the mail from lawyer asking me about going after him more. Mean while this man was well over 40 years old. And is still stealing out of a cars for change. Also he still has about $3,000 he owes to the state. Is it even worth my time or money to sue him for more?

  1. chances are that you won't get any money from this guy if your lawyer goes after him.  it's basically going to be an exercise in futility.  more importantly, i think that you need some therapy to deal with your grief from this situation.  after all, if you are scared to death of all of the men of a certain race because of what one person did, would you agree that that is probably not rational?  forget about the additional money.  that won't help you.  what will help you is to get your life, sense of security, etc. back.

  2. There is almost no chance you can collect anything by suing a man who is in debt, in jail, and thus unable to work. That ambulance chaser should be ashamed of himself for approaching you about it.  However, your state might have a victim compensation program. Here is a website for California's.

  3. If he is in prison, it is unlikely that he could pay any judgment.  No insurer would cover him for his criminal acts.  He has no income.  If he has assets outside of prison, then perhaps it would be worth it, but the vast majority of prisoners don't have two dimes to rub together.

  4. if you think he'd be a danger to you when he gets out then do your upmost to keep him in jail for as long as possible.

if you think that it was a random act of violence and he has no way of knowing who you are or what you have done, then let it go.

He's over 40 and still committing petty teenage crimes?  The man needs an attitude adjustment.  I'd go find a counselor or something and discuss this with them and ask them what they think may occur in your own psyche if you drag this out more.

  5. umm i dont know anything legal sorry but that sounds really horrible...what area where you in?

  6. Let it go. With that record, you're lucky you're not dead.

Next time quit the chase before something worse happens.

  7. I think you need to go talk to a professional about how your feeling ,suing him Will just bring back all the stuff your trying to get over

  8. Suing this man is not going to make you feel better. Him giving you money is not going to fix all of the problems that he has caused you, he probably doesn't have any money anyway. I suggest not suing him and going into therapy it sounds like you really need it.
