He is here to win- Michael Schumacher
The seven times world champion, Michael Schumacher has intentionally over heard all the criticism regarding his decision of staying in the sport for yet another year saying that he is fully motivated and optimistic for a great season ahead.
Many of the analysts and Formula One gurus have suggested that the German must leave the sport, once for all now. Earlier, at the end of 2007, he announced his retirement but only for a period of three years. By the start of this season, he returned to the
track joining the Mercedes GP team, the winner of both the drivers’ as well as the constructors’ championship.
Despite the immense fanfare and hype created for the racing icon’s return, people were very soon disappointed by his performance. All through the 2010 season he was hardly able to show any satisfactory performances, and kept blaming the team car for his
poor race shows.
On the other hand, his teammate, and fellow countryman, Nico Rosberg, who is very young and new to the sport, kept bagging points, one after the other race. As the season came to an end, Schumacher stood almost half the points adrift his teammate, who stands
at 7th place in the drivers’ charts with his 142 points.
The 2010 season has hardly even seen the glimpse of the old racer who used to do wonders on the track. After having won five championships consecutively and statistically being the most successful racer in 60 years of the sport’s history, a season like this
one has only damaged his repute.
It was not very late at the start of the 2010 season that the driver started facing a lot of criticism and condemnation which went on till the last race at the Yas Marina circuit. Although the driver returned to the sport with a three years’ contract with
Mercedes GP, it was commonly assumed that he will not stay in the sport for another season after having embraced such disappointing 19 races. However, not only the driver, but his team is adamant to run another season believing that the next year is going
to see him in a complete new form and spirit and that a better team car will bring the old racer back to the track.
While talking to the media earlier this week the driver proclaimed that he is not concerned about what others say. He has had an enjoyable season and is looking forward for a better season ahead with a far more competitive car.
The 41-year-old proclaimed, “I feel I have the right to do what I enjoy. Whether I put in dispute my reputation, I just feel good about my decision and I have so much support from people.”
But that was not all he said, he also assured that he was there to win. He insisted that he was serious about winning again and was not only racing for personal satisfaction, but wanted to make sure that the fans were happy with his performance.
He explained saying, “I certainly want to make it a successful return. I'm only happy if I'm back on the winning road with the team. This is what I'm working for, this is the joy of the passion for Formula 1.”
While describing his 2010 campaign, Schumacher said, “It's certainly not as successful as I thought initially and many other people have thought. But then having such a strong group and team behind, Mercedes pushing it so hard, I have no doubt about success
in the future.”
