'anal' is short for the freudian (the father of psychology/psychiatry) term, anal retentive. the term refers to people who MUST have things done a certain way. for example, i have a friend who must get ready for work in the exact same order every day or he becomes so disoriented, he can't get on track and get to work. once, his wife got him off his routine and by the time he got to work, which was late, he had forgotten to brush his teeth and shave! some people are this way about the order of things on a shelf or the cleanliness of their car or surroundings. its all about ORDER for them.

most people don't know that there is another 'anal': anal expulsive. these people are exactly the opposite. they are in a perpetual state of chaos. like the charlie brown character pig pen, they leave a mess in their wake.
