Ok so I'm in college and i'm mentoring an international student and we're suppose to meet once a week for at least an hour and we can do whatever we want.... ok well i've told the person i'm mentoring that we can do anything he wants and i gave him many choices that are free because they have no obligation to pay but for the past three weeks he has said that he either has to study or he's going to an international party..... so he can't do anything with me... i don't know if he doesn't understand the fact that we are supposed to meet every week... and i'm getting frustrated... it's like he can only do ONE thing a weekend... and nothing else...

so basically... what do you think i should do?

A. tell him we're supposed to be meeting every week and suggest just meeting in the union for an hour to talk

B. tell the person in charge of the mentoring program and see what they have to say

C. do nothing and deal with it....

OR do you have any other suggestions?

THANKS!

  1. I would do B.

Sounds like you are a good person trying to help someone.  If he's not going to play straight with you, you should tell the person in charge.

  2. I would say something. Not only are you being used. But, the person you're suppose to be helping is not getting the help he is suppose to help. You're both being hurt.

  3. confront him telling him that "i am really serious about this mentoring thing, and i really want to help you to get more used to this country and etc. but if you dont wish to make the effort to meet up at least once a week, please withdraw from the program so that someone else who really serious about this can benefit from my help"

ps. you are doing a good thing here =)

  4. I feel you should be civil but firm when you tell him what is expected of both of you . If he does not listen even then then go to the higer ups or as you said people in charge of the mentoring programme.
