Head Coach Rex Ryan believes New York Jets do not get due credit for their performance – NFL News
New York Jets have been getting a fair deal of criticism of late. Even some newspapers went as far as depicting them as clowns on their respective front pages.
Such kind of response has taken its toll on the Jets upper hierarchy. Jets head coach Rex Ryan came out and expressed his displeasure over getting such kind of reviews recently. According to New York Daily News, he said:
“Well I just think we’re a better football team than people give us credit for, I also think our organization is a lot better than people give us credit for. The circus thing is kind of a little old for me. But that’s the way it is.”
Maybe coach Ryan believes that calling his team a circus is a bit too much. However, the performance of the team during the offseason, particularly the preseason, shows some harsh facts.
The Gang Green failed to get even a single win during the offseason, while the starting offence was unable to score a single touchdown, adding more pressure on Ryan
Moreover, Jets that were ranked by none other than Ryan himself to be the title contenders last season failed miserably to fulfil the expectations.
The team’s discipline was all over the place during the 2011 season, which barred them from reaching the postseason.
Jets owner Woody Johnson also looks unhappy about how the media has presented his team’s prospects this season. Johnson said:
“(We’re) trying to win games and trying to represent our fans as they expect us to represent them, We learned this in 3rd grade: sticks and stones and all this stuff about calling people names, that’s what that is... I’m not in this to create
a circus environment.”
Johnson also cleared the rumours that the posts of coach Ryan and general manager Mike Tannenbaum were under threat.
The owner appreciated Ryan’s contribution in taking the team to the American Football Conference (AFC) championship game twice in last four years.
Ryan seems to have the full support of his boss. There is no denying that Ryan has been very successful during his tenure at Jets. And with the expectations at its lowest, Jets and Ryan have nothing to lose and everything to gain this season.
