Question:

Head Injury - See the Doctor Again?

I suffered repeated blows to the back of my head from a car door at the very beginning of May and I am still experiencing pain throughout the back of my head, neck, & shoulders. I went to the doctor mid May, was given a muscle relaxant and was told I should be fine. The pain is not as bad or worse than it originally was but I am still wondering if a trip to the doctor is actually worth the time/money/ect. ?

  1. see a neurologist if you aren't already.

  2. Muscle relaxants may provide relief, but if if's only temporary, you may need to do some kind of exercises to restore your posture if it was affected by the injury.

Sometimes chiropractic can help, but don't go to one who wants to do a bunch of X-rays and put you on a "program" of repeated visits.  Just ask him/her to loosen you up a little.   If they insist on X-rays, find another chiropractor, or bring whatever X-rays you have or can get from your MD.

  3. Are you still on relaxants? If so, you shouldn't be... you are likely addicted if you are and will need medical help to get off of them.

Because you had a head injury, you should go back and be re-evaluated. I'm surprised your doctor didn't tell you to come back.
