Head Iton Jason turns heads at Sheffield
Sheffield played host to the £5000 Molson Coors 3 Steps To Victory Trophy Final over 660m last night as well as the £200 Sheffield Stadium 490 Puppy Trophy.
Molson Coors 3 Steps To Victory Trophy Final
Head Iton Jason surprised the crowd at Sheffield with a close victory in the Trophy Final yesterday. Jason looked strong at the end of the long race, taking first place by ¾ lengths over Farloe Rocket
with a time of 39.25 seconds.
Rocket, a 7-1 longshot, did well to finish in second place and, needed as strong finish of his own to keep ahead of Wilfy Wells, who finished just a neck behind Rocket in third place.
Crown Rover, the 7-4 race favourite, did not impress in this race, trailing after the first bend, and losing much more ground on the fourth bend. He finished 5¾ lengths back of Wells.
Taking fifth place was Droopys Arshavin, and in last was Mustang Mission.
Sheffield Stadium 480 Puppy Trophy
In the Puppy Trophy, 5-2 race favourite Boher Legend beat Stepaside Bigjak by 1¼ lengths with a time of 28.01 seconds. Bigjak looked good in the early going, leading from the traps, but Legend took over
the lead after the third bend.
Taking third was Droopys Noreen, who finished a length back of Bigjak. The 10-1 longshot did well to keep ahead of the bottom half of the pack, and stayed close to the leaders, but couldn’t find that final
push to move up into top spot.
In fourth, 4½ lengths behind Noreen, was Sporty Fortune, and just a shoulder behind him was Dukeries Griff. Taking sixth place was Blue Dove.
Sheffield Stadium Maiden Stayers
Sheffield also hosted the £200 Maiden Stayers over 660m Tuesday night. It was Manners Catch in this one, taking the lead on the second bend, and winning by 3½ lengths over Penskey John with a time of 39.94.
Penskey John fell back on the sixth bend and almost allowed Droopys Safari to catch up and take second, but he held on to finish in second place by a neck over Safari.
Another length behind in fourth was Dutch Hawk, and a neck behind him in fifth was Fahy Gift.
Killacolla Mal, the 6-4 race favourite, looked terrible in this race, getting off to a slow start, and falling behind on the second and sixth bends.
