Head coach Jason Kreis: Real Salt Lake should focus on 90 minutes in the playoffs – MLS News
Real Salt Lake head coach Jason Kreis has warned his team of severe consequences should they fail to concentrate on the upcoming play-off.
Lack of focus led resulted in a 1-1 draw against Portland Timbers at Rio Tinto Stadium. “Having gone back and watched that Portland game again, they were really doing nothing to us,” Kreis said.
Further lamenting the draw, the boss said: “The equalizing goal came completely out of the blue for me. We were controlling the rhythm of the match. We were controlling the tempo. We were making a lot of smart decisions with how to finish that match, and
then out of nowhere, 15 seconds of lack of focus and lack of commitment and the ball’s in the back of our net."
The Royals took the lead against the Timbers in the first-half stoppage time but squandered the lead after conceding a late goal in the second-half injury time. Nat Borchers’ poor defence gave the Timbers’ Futty Danso open space in front of the net to score
the equalizer.
This had been the case with the Claret and Cobalt throughout the season. The team puts great shifts in the first half but lose domination in the dying moments, either by leaking an equalizer or losing the game altogether.
Further adding to the despair, the team lost the chance to win the CONCACAF Champions League title and threw away the unbeaten home streak that had been running for two years. The RSL also wasted the chance to win the Supporters Shield.
However, in such desperate times, Javier Morales’ comeback to the roster is good news for the Royals. The attacking midfielder started the last three games and notched two assists to cement his position in the starting eleven. from his 3-match suspension after forcing a foul tackle on CD Chivas USA’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Paladini in September.
The two returning midfielders will certainly help the RSL start the play-offs in a confident fashion, and perhaps Kreis will finally get a chance to praise his team’s performances.
