Head coach Rex Ryan believes lower rankings by experts give New York Jets added boost – NFL News
After getting over optimistic about his team’s ambitions last season, New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan has taken a different road altogether this time around.
Ryan expressed his opinion about one of the pundits ranking his team third in the division. He was talking to the media after the end of the morning practice session on Wednesday, September 05, 2012.
Ryan gave the impression that he was not worried by the lack of high expectations by the experts. Instead, he believes that such things give an additional self motivation to prove others wrong. Ryan said:
"Does it drive you a little bit? I'd be lying if I told you it didn't. Of course it does. Human nature is like, 'I want to show you.' That's exactly how I am. I've grown up that way all my life. There are smarter guys than me, and better looking, but I'm
going to show you.”
During the 2011 offseason, Ryan had high hopes for his team. He was upbeat for a Super Bowl winning season, but it was too much for an average team who was unable to take the burden of such magnitude.
Many of the analysts predict that this season Jets will not be able to improve on their 8-8 record of last season.
The main reason for getting such meagre ratings is the fact that Ryan and his team have gone through a rough ride during the preseason. They failed to win even a single game during the preseason.
Moreover, the offence failed miserably to provide Ryan with something to cheer about. Ryan is hoping that Jets become more disciplined than they were last year.
Jets did not make any big player addition into the roster this offseason except for quarterback Tim Tebow, who led the Denver Broncos to the playoffs last year. Jets will start their season on Sunday, September 09, against another underrated team Buffalo
Bills.
