Head coach Rex Ryan comes to rescue after wide receiver debate – NFL News
It has been a hot week for New York Jets’ roster as a sense of conflict has developed between players that will play at wide receiver.
It started when Antonio Cromartie was asked by the media about where he would rank himself in the wide receiver position.
He replied that he was the second-best, behind Santonio Holmes. After these comments, Chaz Schilens came out and said that Cromartie’s comment were “Slight”. Schilens said:
"We'll address it on the football field … I think it's a slight, I'm not going to lie. I just wouldn't say it, it's not something I would say but I'm not him I guess.”
In order to lower the heat, head coach Rex Ryan has come out in front of media. To curtail the situation, he came up front and said:
"I'm going to say this right now, listen to me when I tell you this. I'm aware of what was said. OK? I'm on top of it, I'm telling you that right now. I'm on top of it, and it will not be a problem. And that's all that I'm going to say about the whole thing."
According to media reports, Ryan had a meeting on Wednesday afternoon to resolve this matter.
Many analysts have said that Cromartie, who is originally a cornerback, has made a joke of his fellow teammates who are wide receiver by profession by ranking them below himself.
When rookie Stephen Hill was asked about this issue, he joked and said he has no issue with it. He said:
"I always feel like I'm the best receiver on the team."
Schilens also said that he thinks Cromartie has a wrong perception in his mind that playing in the wide receiving corps is very easy.
Schilens has been in and out of team due to injuries. He has also been unable to perform at the level which was desired from him.
The other option in the receiving corps is Jeremy Kerley who has failed to impress so far in training camp.
