Head coach Rex Ryan rejects rumours of getting fired by New York Jets – NFL News
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan is going into the season with a lot of self confidence, even after battling through a long and a bit disappointing offseason.
Looking at the perspective of many analysts, the chances of Ryan losing his job at the end of the 2012 season if Jets fail to meet the expectation seem plausible.
Ryan, who will start his fourth season with the Jets, does not take such claims seriously, and his record states that he is one of the most successful Jets' coaches in recent years.
Coach Ryan made it clear on Monday, September, 03, 2012, that he is not foreseeing a quick exit from the franchise. Talking to ESPN Radio, Ryan said:
"I know I'm a great coach. What makes me a great coach is the guys that coach with me and the players that play for me, and everything else this organization has for me. It's hard for me to look at myself not being successful. I don't even see (getting fired)
as a possibility.”
As a defensive minded coach, Ryan has made a lot of improvement in the Jets defensive team. In fact, most of the success came because of powerhouse performances by the defence.
It appears that the Jets’ administration, particularly general manager Mike Tannenbaum, is facing more and more tough questions about future with the franchise than the head coach himself. Ryan said:
"It might be 10 years from now, or 15 years from now, when Woody Johnson wants to go in a different direction. But I'm going to tell you one thing: I have complete confidence in myself. I'll leave it to the experts to say my job is on the line.”
It may be difficult to predict what lies ahead for Ryan in the next decade, but it is very likely that he will be able to retain his job even if Jets fail to reach the playoffs.
However, owner Woody Johnson is a mature businessman and will look into things very carefully in order to decide what is good for the future of Jets.
