Head coach Tan Kim Her says discipline is a key factor for shuttlers to become world beaters
Tan Kim Her, the Men’s Doubles head coach of Malaysia has emphasized on the importance of discipline as a key factor for shuttlers to become world beaters. The coach has made it mandatory for all shuttlers to attend three training sessions on a daily basis
and if any shuttler shows tardiness, he will not be given an opportunity to compete in any international event of badminton.
However, the coach gave a little relaxation to elite shuttlers, Tan Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat as they are not used to this schedule. Another pair of elite shuttlers, Ong Soon Hock and Hoon Thien How will also be attending three sessions from now onwards,
as they need to work harder to make their mark on top shuttlers of the world.
The head coach also expressed that coaches will monitor the performance of every shuttler on a daily basis and their presence in all sessions is mandatory. He made it clear that any shuttler who misses the training sessions on a consistent basis will lose
the right to play in international events.
Kim Her said, “Discipline will be the key factor if the doubles squad are going to be successful and the rules are the same for everyone. The only reason I exempted Kien Keat-Boon Heong from the early morning session is that they are not used to it and I
don't want to force them too early.”
While talking about training sessions, the coach added, “We will have a 40-minute joint session daily and after that, Cheh Chang will put Kien Keat-Boon Heong through drills with the back-up players utilised for sparring.”
The first training sessions will start early morning as the coach wants shuttlers to take proper sleep by going to bed before midnight, as it will help them in maintaining good momentum while practicing.
The coach also wants shuttlers to portray good behaviour like a true sportsman who loves to be at the top. He also said that players have to sacrifice many things if they really want to become competent shuttlers. The training will be conducted under these
new guidelines, which is certainly a good move for making shuttlers more skilled and competent.
