Head injury rules out Browns’ quarterback Colt McCoy’s for Sunday – NFL News
Cleveland Browns quarterback Colt McCoy is confirmed to be unlikely for their next game this Sunday as doctors have not cleared him to go on the field and resume his play.
Colt McCoy is out of the side due to concussion for last couple of weeks and the team’s coach Pat Shurmur said that he was unlikely to return to their side this weekend.
"Like anybody who wants to play, he's anxious to get out there," Shurmur said. "He understands there's a process he has to go through before he can play again."
Browns are also unclear if McCoy would be able to make it to their squad this season with only two games left to closing of it.
The coach further said that he was unaware of the latest status of the player’s injury and whether he had seen any specialists since his injury about 12 days ago. There was also no confirmation from him if McCoy was still experiencing the concussion symptoms.
Shurmur however confirmed that Seneca Wallace who had started in the Browns last week will remain at the quarterback position for his second straight game. "At this point, more than likely he'll be the starter, for sure," he said.
The news about Colt McCoy’s improbability for playing in the Browns this weekend game comes a day after the team management reported two more players to have suffered concussions on past Sunday. They are the wide receiver Jordan Norwood and linebacker Ben Jacobs.
The latest head injury scares take the total number of Browns players with concussions to eight with total number of injuries at 11.
Colt McCoy had suffered concussion in the Browns game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday, in the week before last week. He came into a helmet-to-face mask hit with the Steelers linebacker James Harrison.
The player while being on the sideline for about four minutes returned to resume his play. He was not assessed for concussion for apparently showing no signs of concussions, according to the team management.
The controversy surrounding the handling of his injury has led to an inquiry by the National Football League (NFL) and NFL Players Association (NFLPA) and announcement of positioning of certified trainers on sideline to monitor players for concussion during each game as its outcome.
The NFL in the meantime has suspended the James Harrison for one game over his hit on Colt McCoy. Harrison the first player to be banned from a game under NFL’s new rules served the penalty in the San Francisco 49ers game on past Monday night.
