  1. well once you get your house clean you can deal with the lice make sure to go the pharmcy and pick up the shampoo for lice. Lice like clean hair i know sounds funny but they do because dirty hair is hard for them to hold on to they slip off hint the reason they told you to use baby oil as for the mother in law just try and show her the lice in the little girls hair and explain to her that it is really uncomfortable for her to have and even go get the shampoo yourself and offer to help her clean if you put forth the effort she most likley will not turn you down (sh*t if you offer to help clean my house I will offer to pick you up lol)

  2. hi, just put any conditioner on her hair(dry) and comb the lice out and make sure you get the lice out from the comb, if you can get some use tea tree conditioner preferably.

  3. do the kids hair at the same time, i know it sounds funny but vinegar or aftershave worked the best for killing the lice. just wash their hair with it. and make sure  they both have clean bedding and teddies and hoover as much as you can! the problem is they will probably pick it back up from school again so chances are you'll have to put up with it until your child goes to secondary school where there seems to be less lice! my dad had mine and my sisters hair shaved from the ears down (an undercut) but our hair covered it so it wasnt noticeable that helped a bit.

  4. Head lice in kids are not uncommon.. they share things and play close and the mites are transferred.

The problem is that the mites transfer to things like sofas and pillows and soon the whole family is scratching its head.

Neet is an over the counter shampoo that works pretty well.. there are other ones.  BUt none of them are cheap.

In addition, you will need to wash ALL of the bedclothes and pillows often for a week or so since, while you can kill the mites, their eggs are pretty indestructible and take a while to hatch.

Pick out some clothes you would like to wear often and one set of sheets.. Wash all the others and then put them away after spraying them with insecticide targeted to mites (its in the same section of the drug store as the Neet shampoo).  Better still, put the clothes/extra sheets in a plastic bag and spray and leave it there for a week.

Then, wash the clothes each day and shampoo EVERYONE in the family daily.

Clean and vacume the house with extra care in the areas where the kid lives and plays..

It may take a couple of tries to get them all.. they are persistent little buggers.. But be thrurough.. one missed mite and you get to start ALL over in about a week.

If the other kids are not cleaned and de-loused then you will not be able to get rid of them if your child continues to play and visit their house.

Google Head LIce and read up a bit on them.. that may give you a bit more insight.

  5. You know the issues...

You have a choice..do you want to get rid of lice? If you do-then you have to tell your sister in law-that she's family-and perhaps you love her...but you have a bigger duty that comes first to your own child...and lice are not acceptable.  Buy her some lice shampoo-get clear detailed instructions on how to rid the home of lice put it in a gift bag--with maybe some nice very chocolate. Or Hershey's Kisses. Tell he she's family-and being family-they work with each other. Together.

Then tell her until then--taking walks or playing at the park are the options--not going in each other's homes.

Just be firm. Yes she's family...but so are you !!

By the way...anyone can get head lice. My sister works in a school near Washington DC...she has had to call Senators Congressmen and Ambassadors to tell them to come get their child--because they have head lice. Some pretty famous people have had them too. You are not alone.

You've gotten a lot of good advise from a lot of people..good luck-I feel for you !

  6. well when i was younger and had it i blow dryed the heck out of it after each bath you could do that and then pick the rest out it worked for me and i had it bad hope this helped

  7. There is special shampoo you buy for lice.

You can get it at just about any store that sells shampoo, you may have to ask the pharmacist, though.

  8. I would really tell them not to come over. Why would you want your child to suffor all the time b/c you have family that can't take care of their childrens heads. Well, when I was younger my mom used to wash my hair with vinegar. A lot of kids would get it in the elementry. I never got it. I can't remember if my hair stunk like vinegar or not. But I think she was right for doing it b/c I wouldn't want to get lice. But yea you should talk to you family and let them know how you feel.

  9. I think you should go to the doctors because they will tell you what to do about it.also it will help you out more of knowing what to do when someone that yung gets it.

  10. For a child of such a young age, Shampoo is required.

After rinsing the shapoo away brush with a Metal tooth comb or alternatively.

    Ruffle the hair, LOTS

Make sure the toddlers head is facing downwards and ruffle away like crazy.

( Works best when the hair is dry )

You can have a peice of paper underneath to see how many you have catched.

Repeat this process everyday until the paper stops catching those little bugs

  11. My best friend's daughter had a problem with head lice for a while. She was a teenager, but the way they got rid of them for good was to put petroleum jelly on her hair and wrapped a plastic bag(or saran wrap) around her hair and left it in the plastic overnight. It suffocates the lice. Now, I don't know how it would work on a toddler, I can't imagine getting my brat(19 months) to wear a turban of plastic, lol, but it really works. Sometimes that shampoo doesn't work on people, I had the same thing myself as a teenager and it got soo bad my mom poured gasoline on my head, which burns and totally sucks, and I don't ever recommend that for anyone, lol. It worked too, but I find the petroleum jelly to be a lot less painful, hehe.

As to the family, tell them straight up- I don't want to be rude, but you can't come into my house until I get a doctors excuse saying she's lice free. That's what the middle school should be doing anyways. You can sit outside or use the phone but I am not dealing with it again.

I sympathize, I really do, I've been there. Or when your SIL comes over, wrap her hair in a plastic bag and make her wear a smock, tell her it's fine to visit but until she gets rid of the lice she has to dress strangely. Don't be mean about it, just straight up. Because this can become a problem that lasts years, I'm not kidding. You can also get anemic and sick from having little bits of your blood sucked all the time. Just like dogs can be allergic to fleas and get sick. Good luck!

Also, doing a rinse with vinegar water really does help, as the previous poster mentioned, it leaves hair soft and shiny and clean, and the bugs don't like the residue. That's how I kept from getting it after we finally got rid of them for good. It's like one cup per gallon of water and doesn't leave a smell(apple cider vinegar will take the sting out of sunburn too)

  12. if u go to the doctor thats a bill u might not need. go to a wal-mart or what ever store u go to and anything for head lice wash everything in hot water linien.stuff anmials wash them or seal them in a bag for a few days. get any kind of bug spray put it on all fur. if its a boy shave their heads its easier. always bag the hair in a zip lock bag

  13. Go to the doctor instead of spend time on a message board!

If you can't do that, spend time researching it online than waiting for an answer. Then get the proper medecine at your local drug or grocery store.

  14. go to the doctor or your nearest prescription drug place. they can give you a special shampoo to get rid of them.  i would really try doctors.

    hope this helps!
