Hi guys i have a 2005 hyundai elantra and when ever i have my sub playing my head lights begin to flicker, not bad but you can tell at night because they dim on and off. I have a 300 watt infintiy amp and a 12 in kicker cvr sub. Does any one no why this is happening? Thanks

  1. get yourself a lighting cap..that will fix all your problems..

  2. you don't have enough wattage for your lights to be dimming, it sound like you may need thicker power/ground wires

Capacitors are a waste of money, upgrade your battery and alternator first- a capacitor will just put more strain on your stock charging system

  3. Mary S. has got the answer, but what is happening is when your music hits the beat or base the amp is pulling sudden jolts of power from the car, which in-turn makes your lights dim. As Mary said you need to get what is called a capacitor, the car will charge this at a steady rate and the amp will pull its sudden jolts of power off of it instead of your car.        Good Luck.

  4. getting like a 1 fared capacitor will help that no doubt

  5. You need a 800 watt power cap. What it will do is the alternator will charge the power cap and the amp will draw the power from the power cap instead of the batt. locally found at any wal mart or car stereo store.

  6. the powercap method is correct, but with the low amount of power you are using (only 300 watts) your battery should be upgraded to a better unit. if i were you, id just go buy a new Red top or Yellow top Optima battery. it has more than enough to handle your systems capabilities. plus its alot easier to switch to a better battery than it is to wire in a powercap or extra battery.

if you do go the powercap route, get one rated at 20VDC Farad or better
