I want to send my son to the headstart program but i heard you have to make a certain amount of money. I was wondering what is the cirriculum like from the time they go in to the time they get out. What do they teach them and what time do they have to be there and be picked up is it like regular school from 8-3 o clock

  1. You need to check with the program in your community.  It varies from one area to the next.  Even the number of hours the kids are in school can be different.

Yes, it's income based, however they do accept over income families at times for a variety of reasons so you should apply even if you think you are over income.

I work for Head Start, and in my classroom, we teach social skills, literacy skills, math and science skills, music skills, and health and physical fitness skills.  Our children finish their Head Start years with a very strong foundation to build their educational experience on.  Many of them go to kindergarten as beginning readers with good basic math and science skills.  They can count, and they understand how to investigate to find answers to questions they have.  They have learned how to get along socially and introduce themselves into ongoing play.  And they have learned a lot of self help skills.  They know how to chose healthy foods and healthy activities.  They know how to wash their hands, brush their teeth, put on their own shoes (although they don't always know how to tie them yet!).

Head Start is a wonderful program in my area and I highly recommend that you look into it.
