  1. I want to clarify the requirements for the home visiting.  One person responding that it is not mandatory that the visit take place in the home.  I too work for Head Start and it depends on which option your child is entering.  If this a center base program then yes that is true, if it is a home base or combination program then home visits are a requirement of the program unless there are extenuating circumstances for it not to happen in the home.
Head Start is a wonderful program that supports you as the parent.  What better place than your child's own environment to provide guidance and support.
There are specific standards Head Start programs need to meet but how each one meets them is different and I have observed that you are receiving some info specific to a program.
Talk with your home visitor about your concerns.  Any well trained Head Start staff person should be able to explain and put your mind at ease.
Enjoy your collaboration and joint partnership with Head Start.

  2. I work for a Head Start program and it's required for programs to conduct home visits. You can decline and have the "home visit" at a location of your choice, like a library or even a park. Head Start staff do not come to
inspect your house. The purpose is to partner with parents to enhance children's learning. The philosophy of the program is that parents are their child's first and most important teacher, and therefore, it's for the child's benefits to work with parents to set goals to meet the individual needs of a child. Staff do not come to judge you as a parent :)
