Question:

Headaches from reading - don't need glasses ?

So I have been reading a lot as I am a full time student. I have always been an avid reader and up until recently have enjoyed it with no problems.

When reading I suffer from strange headaches that are accompanied with nausea. These headaches sometimes become unbearable.

I just had my eyes checked a few days ago and was told I have perfect vision.

I am reading text, highlighting and then writing notes on my laptop.

Any suggestions would be great because I need to be able to read to graduate !

Thank you

  1. How can you tell if that throbbing headache is really a migraine ? Only about 15-20% of migraine sufferers experience the classic “auras” - the visual, auditory, or olfactory perceptions or other neurological symptoms known to occur 15 to 30 minutes prior to an attack. While severe head pain is the hallmark of the condition, the manifestations of migraine may vary widely from individual to individual.

In general, symptoms of a migraine attack include:

moderate to severe, throbbing head pain

most commonly one-sided pain; less frequently both sides of the head are affected

pain located near the eye on affected side

pain that worsens with physical activity

    sensitivity to light and/or sound

    nausea or vomiting

debilitating pain that hinders daily activities

  3. You may be getting headaches from the flickering fluorescent light behind your laptop's LCD screen. Be sure to stop every 20 minutes, and focus your eyes on something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds to relieve eyestrain (the 20/20/20 rule).
