I am trying to reschedule our flight. I only have until this thursday to make the changes. I am wanting to go as soon as possible BUT am afraid this next weekend will be too soon after the hurricane. What about the weekend before labor day? And what are the odds of another major hurricane hitting so soon after this one?

There you can see in basically real time what the weather is truly like for yourself 24/7 instead of just reading a forecast. After any tropical storm/hurricane there's going to be damage, but with a cat 5 hurricane there will be severe damage. I'd hold off as long as possible. After 2005 season in florida it took 2 weeks just for the power to come back on and 2 years later we still have several blue roofs! so it takes a long time to recover, just remember.

no one can predict the odds of another major hurricane hitting the same spot. weather is always unpredictable and there's no way for anyone to know the odds. however don't feel too safe - any floridian will remind you of 2005 when the hurricane apparently wanted to come back to disney world one more time.

  2. CANCUN is fine ! go onto this site cancunweathertoday.com..it has accurate weather in cancun. ive been checking for the past week and its been right so far. they said that cancun is fine today they had no damage and its sunny with some clouds today so im sure you will be fine

  3. Best advice.

Wait a while longer before going. Try the 5th or the 10th.

That is when the season for hurricanes go away for sure.

They return to the bottom of the sea at the center.

  4. rather than foreseeing another hurricane being a problem, you might want to think about damage from dean.  It is HIGHLY unlikely that the damages that will occur will be cleaned up to pre-hurricane status by the time you arrive.  If you do go, then pack your tennis shoes and be prepared to help with the relief efforts.....Good luck and God Bless...

  5. Gulf Breeze Florida was hit with two Cat 3 hurricanes in a 10 month period.  First Ivan and then Dennis.  Hurricanes are unpredictable.  We were suppossed to cruise to Cancun after Hurricane Katrina, which was two months after the fact.  However that port was still closed.  Remember this storm didn't hit near Cancun but it still beat it up pretty badly, anyway.  It might be too soon.

  6. It all really depends on the amount of damage that Dean ends up doing to that area. Often, you won't know for several days how much was actually done. A Cat5 is a very serious storm. The initial reports indicate it may have caused significant damage. The last Cat5 storm to pass through that area (Mitch) caused billions of dollars in damage, and killed 8,000-20,000 people. Hopefully, Dean didn't do anywhere near the same.

As to the odds, you really don't know. In 2004, Frances and Jeanne came ashore in the same spot, within weeks of each other. It all depends on the season. August/September is the busiest time for the storms.

Living in FL, you often find yourself planning vacations around the season, which lasts 6 months of the year.
