  1. Either you buy one home as mentioned above or you can buy an IGN map at Grasse in a book shop. IGN maps are made by the National French Geographic Institute to the 1/100,000 scale  and are used for trekking, easier to calculate height as well.

Or you can get on Mappy or Michelin and get an itinerary map that will show you all the roads around Grasse, but no altitude.

  2. Dead easy solution to your problem. Go to your local branch of either W H Smith or Waterstones and go to the foreign holidays section. There you will find the Michelin maps. I think the one you will need is the 1/200 000 scale - 1cm=2km; number (I'm almost certain) 84. They are easy to spot as they are bright yellow. If they do not have one you can get one online at Michelin's website.  These maps are excellent and I am sure that you will be able to work out circular routes quite easily altho' many of the roads are narrow, steep and bendy.  Did you know that Grasse, a beautiful little town, is the centre of the french perfume industry?

  3. Just a word of advice. Bike-stealing, especially from tourists, is a lucrative business during the summer months in France so keep an eye on your bikes!

  4. there are some really large hills on the coast about two hours west of you, perhaps you could ride from toulon to marseille one day, its very beautiful. but you'd have to take a train for that. are you planning to ride a return trip every day back to grasse? or would it be possible to change location? if so, i could put you on some beautiful terrain that's not too far away.
