  1. Take as little cash as possible...

suggest that you take your Visa or American Express card instead and charge most items that you will need or want to do.  It is much safer than carrying cash!  I would take some however for small purchases.

    Have fun on your trip!

  2. I guess it depends on how much and what kids of foods you like to eat.  For lunch, a sandwich at a corner deli costs around €6 and a kebab around €7-8.  The cheapest option is a hot dog, which is around €3.  Drinks will add a huge chunk, though, since a soda or a bottle of water costs €2.75 at most places (and €1.40 at a supermarket).

There are some inexpensive restaurant options in Oslo if you know where to look.  Most of them are ethnic cuisine like Thai or Vietnamese.  A main dish at an inexpensive restaurant is around €12.  I would say that at an average middle-of-the-road restaurant, it would cost €18-25.  If you plan to drink any alcohol, that will be a huge additional expense, since beer and wine usually costs €6-9 per glass, and cocktails are €8-12.

For spending money, the most likely thing I can think of is public transit, which is roughly €3.50/trip or €7.50 for a 24-hour pass.  Some museums admissions can be a little expensive, costing €6-10 for adults, but it's a little less for students.  You can buy a combined 1-day transit and museum pass for €27.50.  Alternatively, if you're on a budget, there are a number of free things to see/do including the National Gallery (which contains a copy of the painting The Scream), exploring the central street of Karl Johans gate, Vigelands Sculpture Park, a stroll along the picturesque historic street of Damstredet, or (if the weather is warm) a visit to the "beach" and a swim in the fjord.

Souvenirs obviously vary in price, but a postcard generally costs €0.87-1.25, and postage within Europe is roughly €1.

As mentioned before, you should probably just bring your card.  If you have a debit card, you can use the local ATMs to get cash, but almost all shops and restaurants take cards, and Norwegians often use their debit cards even to pay for small purchases.
