  1. You should make an attempt to visit Milano, even though it is busy, its a beautiful city and if you do go, you must go visit Lago di Como. (Lake Como)

I went to Venice in July, and it was amazing, thats for sure, but the too many people, the over crowded lines and all those d**n birds pooping every 21 seconds can get on your nerves.

    I'm sure you'll love Italy. I know I did.

  2. Go to the best kept secret in Italy .... Sicily. I'd strongly recommend Taormina. Short of that, make sure you see Positano and Capri since you'll be in the Naples area. Have a nice Caprisi Salad while your in the Naples area the local Buffalo Mozzarella is to die for.

  3. I agree with the first answer.  If I were you I would only spend a day in Chinqueterre and 3 days in Florenece.  The Uffizi can take a day alone.  Below is a link to book tickets.  Or you can just google it.  One place I would highly recommend is Padua.  It is about an hour from Venice and has the chapel that Giotto painted his frescos.  It also has Saint Anthony's Basilica were Saint Anthony's tomb is.  It is the most beautiful Basilica I have ever been to and it is home to some wonder art work.  Padua also offers some great shopping.

  4. Napoli is nice, but if you get there by train and take a ferry to Sorrento, you won't regret it. It is a 20 minute ferry ride and Sorrento is another world "E tutta un altra cosa" (as the Neapolitans say. Literally that means 'it's all another thing' the equivalent of our saying 'it's out of this world'

My husband worked in Naples for three months. I hated the city. At the same time, I didn't want to leave Sorrento  ... EVER. It is lovely. If you take a train to Pompeii, you're half way to Sorrento, so if you don't want to go over the water, or if you're short on cash, take the train. It think it is called Circumvesuviana (around vesuvius)

  5. While you are in the Cinqueterre check out Genoa. Best is on Friday/Saturday, when the city is busy, lot's of activities in town. Genoa is not on the main tourist maps, but it is worth discovering it before everyone is running through this town. It host the largest middle age town in Europe. The second largest aquarium, 78 buildings protected by UNESCO World heritage, churches built at the beginning of the last millennium.

  6. From Naples/Pompeii, do Pompeii in the morning, hit Sorrento for lunch (there's a train) and take the boat over to Capri. I would stay in Florence a little longer if possible - there's a lot to see and do. If you want to see the Uffizi, try to get tickets online or you'll be standing in line for hours. Siena was nice, Verona was really nice, great wine in Valpolicella - that's about a day trip from Venice and off the beaten path a bit. Have fun!

  7. you should visit Turin..after the olympics games it's become really nice..

in my opinion Naples isn't so beautiful but Pompei is..

in Genova you should see the aquarium, the old and the new port

  8. While you are in Naples have lunch or dinner at a restaurant near the Egg castle named Antonio Antonio.  It has a beautiful view of the bay of Naples and you can sit outside.  I would also reccommend Capri.  You can take a ferry from Naples.  The Blue Grotto is a very romantic and interesting thing to do while in Capri.  If you have a couple days in Naples I would also suggest the Amalfi Coast.  Very beautiful and romantic.  You can either drive the Amalfi Coast and hit some of the really nice towns like Ravello or Positano, or you can take a ferry ride and see it from the water.  Pompeii is really really big.  Probably bigger than you would think.  If you really want to look around at everything there it would take you all day.  If you were interested, you can also climb to the top of Mt Vesuvius.

Venice is my favorite place in Italy.  Very unique.  Definitely go on a gondola ride.  They usually run about 50euro per person.

While in Rome take advantage of the metro system!!!  It is VERY easy to use.  It only has 2 lines: the red line and blue line.  Both cross at the main train station (Termini Station).  It is very cheap and will save you a lot of walking time since Rome is so huge.  If you get off at the Trevi Fountian station (Barbarosa is the name of the stop) and turn left up the street you will find a Church called the Church of the Immaculate.  It has a crypt in there that has 5 rooms that are completely decorated with human bones.  There are over 4000 bodies that make up these rooms.  It sounds really weird, but you'll never see anything else like it.  The chandiliers and everything are made of bones.

Also, while in Florence you can take an hour train ride that will cost less than 10 euro and go to Pisa so you can see the Leaning Tower.  Also while in Florence, visit Piazzale Michelangelo.  It has a beautiful view of Florence and the surrounding Tuscan countryside.

It sounds like you are going to hit all the good places to see in Italy.  Believe me, the 2 weeks will fly by.  Have fun!
