Headlight grounding help

my company dump truck keeps blowing headlights up and i think its a ground could i ground the headlight to the frame or is that not a sufficient ground

  1. make sure the bolt isnt rusty and there isnt paint where its grounded


  2. Three things will make a headlight quit working.

    High Shock

    High Vibration

    High Voltage

    I would suggest that if the voltage to the headlight is correct and there is nothing you can do about the vibration and the shock is to use a Heavy Duty H4 Bulb.

    A H4 headlight has a replaceable bulb, these can be found at Pep Boys and Kregan Autoparts as well as online store. I’m guessing you have 7” round headlights. I would use Harley Davidson Bulbs in these headlight lenses. The Harley Bulbs are made for rough service with all the low frequency vibration they have at idle.

  3. If the problem your having is blowing headlights, it sounds like you could have a short to ground. In other words the one of the positive wires is contacting ground. Grounding the negative to the frame most likely will not help you, i would check the positive connections first and work from there.
