Question:

Headrest in car....?

My husband tends to support his head on the headrest whilst driving which makes me feel very uncomfortable as I don't think this is a good driving position... to my knowledge the headest is there to prevent whiplash or at least lessen the injuries following a collision and not to relax against whilst driving....I'm I right or am I just being a paranoid backseat driver?

  1. It's normal.. not really weird,  I do it all the times

  2. Don't want to come between you, but you're quite right. It should more properly be called the head restraint.

  3. The head should be against the headrest, to prevent whiplash if there is an accident.  A large air gap between the headrest and the head is dangerous, because the head can move backwards (or, more accurately, not move forwards as quickly and the seat and the torso) if the car is hit from behind.  The sudden bending of the neck is what causes whiplash injuries.

  4. As long as he dosen't have a problem driving, whats the big deal?

  5. Depends on the car, some are restraints and some are for comfort and as a restraint. I have driven for 25 years and use mine to rest back on sometimes, I'm sure you have better things to worry about!!!!!!

  6. Plain and simple you have nothing to worry about......

  7. So long as his view is not restricted, there is no reason why he shouldn't do it.

Also, if there is no distance between his head and the restraint, that would lessen the impact on his head in the event of a rear ender.

  8. The headrest does not prevent whiplash. I have suffered whiplash myself. When you are hit from behind, your head goes forward, not back. The head rest is ther to be used whilst driving to relive any strain on the neck.

  9. It's supposed to be level with the back of your neck, yeah. I honestly never worry about it, but if it concerns you, I think that he should use it properly.

  10. I've only seen people use the head rest if they drive a lot, usually the seat is straight up, and the head rest is set in a way to keep the posture, as i said mainly with people who drive a lot.

If he is leaning back and putting his head backward on to the head rest, then you should worry as this is not a good position to see the road clearly.

  11. They're not head rests, they're head restraints, you are spot-on.

  12. IF YOU ARE Feeling UNCOMFORTABLE,

then you should tell your husband about this,

if he truly loves you, he will understand you,

even if he doesn't then try to LOVE him more to understand you better.

    Praying works,

  13. paranoid

  14. The way he is using it is actually the proper way to utilize the headrest in a car.

It lessens the amount of movement before the headrest becomes functional and decreases the amount of force actually exerted on his skull and spine.
