How low does your income have to be for your child to get into headstart? Is headstart only for low income families? Do I just go to my local headstart to get an applacation?

  1. Yes, start with going to your local HeadStart program to get some information.  It differs from state to state and even differs from county to county.

  2. Go to a local Head Start and ask for an application.  All Head Start guidelines are different based on the state and area you live in.  Some Head Starts accept what we call "over income" when there is not a waiting list.  We also have a ranking system for placing children in school.  Children with special needs or on an IEP get more points.  Turn in the application and give them a call every once in awhile to let them know you are still interested.  It is a wonderful program and I wish they could service more children.

  3. Yes. You just need to enquire at the head start programs available in your county about the income criteria and application.
