Health Insurance Agent Question?

I am currently a Farmers Insurance Agent (new) and I want to offer my clients health insurance...how can i get set up to be a independent health agent....how do i get it set up with a health insurance company?

First, check with your DM to see if Farmers is contracted with a health carrier in your area.  If not, then simply determine which carrier you would want to write with and give them a call.  Talk to someone in the contacting/licensing department and ask what their requirements for an appointment are.  If they are appointing new agents and you qualify, they will send you the paperwork to fill out.  Once that is done, you should study the products extensively before trying to present them to your clients.  Medical Insurance is one of the most complicated and ever changing insurances you will ever sell.  You must keep up so that you stay out of E&O problems.  Good luck with this and your new carrier with Farmers.  (If you haven't completed your series license, I would recommend concentrating on that before taking on new appointments.)

Since you are an insurance agent, I would hope you are talking about insurance products, not some discount plan.  If you are not Life/Health licensed, that will be your first step.  Once you get that, you can either hook up with a General Agent that processes health applications, or you can contact some of the local insurance companies in your state that offer health services.

best thing for you to do is to contact a lawyer for greater advice as you might face in trouble in the future if clients will claim something that is not well written in the policy and terms of your own health insurance com. you have to be careful and must have full knowledge before making your own. have you heard the saying that as much as possible, health insurance companies are not willing to pay their clients? well, not only health insurance but other insurance companies too. you have to battle everything between you and your clients if something will be filed to claim their insurance. there will be a lot more hassles and things can be complicated for some times. most esp, you need to have great savings too just in case.
