Question:

Health Insurance Qualifications (dependent)?

I'm on my mom and dad's insurance coverage as a dependent (I'm over the age of 18, but I go to college full-time). I was curious if anyone knew if I necessarily had to live with my parents (or in a dorm on-campus) in order to be covered for health/prescription insurance or if it varied depending on the insurance company.

  1. No, residency doesn't matter.  If you attend college full-time, AND your parents are paying for your coverage, you are good to go.

  2. As long as you are at school Full-Time then you will be covered under your parent's plan. The only issue is the carrier may not have out of state benefits. So you may have coverage in the state they live, but not where you go to school.

  3. It doesn't matter where you are residing. All that matters to the insurance company is that you meet the dependant and full-time student requirements.
